“Zahor” stands for Memory. We are people of memory, therefore, while celebrating Jewish life, we return to the place where that life was destroyed. At Plac Zgody, today called Plac Bohaterów Getta, we pay tribute to all the Jews of Krakow, without whom our Festival would not exist.

We pray for the peace of their souls and light candles as a sign of our eternal memory.

This year, apart from prayers, Jewish music will be performed at Plac Zgody by three ladies who not long ago as little girls studied under Debora Strauss, Sanne Möricke and Jeff Warschauer, how to produce sounds from instruments so that music would sound authentic.

They are: Oksana Balatsko, Małgorzata Spiechlanin and Zofia Wydra

And they are a symbol and proof that reconciliation among people of good will is still possible.
