The Mapscrambler
02.07.2021 - 20:00 / Festival Tent, ul. Józefa 36 | live: 30.jewishfestival.plדער מאַפּעסמישער ‘der mapesmisher’ is a high-seas voyage through solitude, sun, and salt by the Berlin-based writer and musician Jordan Lee Schnee. It tells the story of a shipwrecked fisherman alone and adrift on the Pacific.
The hallucinatory text may be seen as a metaphor for the Yiddish language, swept by the storms of history, but somehow still alive. The thrumming musical accompaniment heightens the sense of a kind of post-location, with elements of jazz, krautrock, and even metal. My band and I are working right now on some new recordings and videos which will be a lot closer to what we will perform at the festival. This is the closest piece we have online right now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BUMEI1OsT_Q Also, there’s this: https://roberthand.bandcamp.com/ Though it may be a bit “heavier” than what we will perform.
