Morning Papers: Mrs. Maisel – A Fiery Brunette Away From The Hearth
29.06.2021 - 10:00 / Festival Tent, ul. Józefa 36 | live: 30.jewishfestival.plFor a few seasons the fantastically written and directed series about a New York Jewish stand-up comedian from the 1950s, “The Marvellous Mrs. Maisel”, has been one of absolute favourites with critics and audiences alike. It touches upon numerous subjects: from comedy and female comedians, to Jewishness in New York, cuisine, customs, language …
We will look at the visual aspect (but include all the other subjects, of course), that is, Midge Maisel’s wardrobe and living room. Dresses from Dior (and their significance!) and other designers fashionable at the time and New York design of those years. We are introduced to this world by Wojtek Skulski – a philosopher-logician by education who works with fashion on a daily basis (or more precisely in Visual Merchandising) and Przemek Krupski – a cultural expert, designer, specialist in design of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s.
