Literary Programme: Piotr Smolar: A Bad Jew

27.06.2021 - 17:00 / Festival Tent | streaming live: 30.jewishfestival.pl and playkrakow.com

The story of three generations of a Polish-Jewish family, described in the autobiographical book entitled Zły Żyd (A Bad Jew) by Piotr Smolar, talks about a world held together by contradictions – between tolerance and intolerance, memory and oblivion, assimilation and cultivation of customs and traditions.

We will invite a French journalist of Polish origin working for the French daily Le Monde to talk about how the experience of his parents’ immigration reflects on the process of their children’s growing up and whether the stigma of “otherness” can paradoxically give strength.

A hybrid meeting – an online interview with live participation of the audience.

The event has been organized in cooperation with KBF Krakow Festival Office, the operator of the programme Krakow UNESCO City of Literature.
Co-financed by the Minister of Culture, National Heritage and Sport from the Culture Promotion Fund.
