KUMZITS: “Hanging by a thread” – Maya Muchawsky Parnas01.01.1970 - 11:00 - 19:00 / ul. św. Sebastiana 32
My great grandfather was a candle manufacturer in Poland before the war. In my temporary wax dipping workshop here, in Krakow, I am going back in time, trying to revive a daily life long gone. Bring two objects that represent two points on your personal timeline (objects that you don’t mind letting go of) and join me in reconstructing an imagined memory.
Location: ul. św. Sebastiana 32
Duration: everyday, 11:00 – 19:00
Maya Muchawsky Parnas was born in Israel in 1972, and is a visual artist working predominantly with ceramic materials. A graduate of the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, Jerusalem (BFA), and of the Royal College of Art, London (MA), she lives and works in Jerusalem and is a senior lecturer at the Ceramics and Glass Department at Bezalel. In her work, Maya aims to convey various expressions of time and temporality while drawing inspiration from her domestic surroundings.
Maya has recently been selected to take part in the prestigious visiting artist programme of the Israel Institute, and will be teaching and producing new work in Washington University in St. Louis over the next academic year. She has been the recipient of the Andy prize for contemporary arts in 2013, and of the Clore Foundation scholarship for MA studies at the Royal College of Art, London.
